Is there an english language new testament that comes close to the original greek?

I'm learning about the wycliffe bible. Before him, bibles and the catholic m were in latin. Long story short, making the bible understandable by everyone undermined the power of the church and king. Owning one brought a charge of heresy and you were burned at the stake. Wycliffe became disillusiioned with the catholic church after reading the bible in its original greek. I could go on with the story, but are there currently english translations of the bible straight from the greek? Or does my question show my lack of knowledge on the subject?
