What is an ideal simple pendulum and why cant we observe it?

The simple pendulum requires a mless connection between the pivot and the oscillating m. Also, the m must be concentrated at one discrete radius (can have no radial thickness). Add air and pivot drag to these and you essentially have the difference between theory & reality........
