Are the books Oprah recommends good to read by a 17 year old or would the just bore me and go right over head?

You're 17, not 5. Oprah books aren't personally to my taste, but if a 17 year old can't manage a popular adult read, they are really quite seriously developmentally delayed. That's the sort of reading level you'd expect to have by 12 or 13.
