Computer question.?

I'll be on my computer for thirty minutes and it goes to a black screen that says "disk read error press cont,alt,del". But when I press it it just goes back to the same screen over and over. Then if I just let my computer sit til' the next day I'll get another thirty minutes the next day. What's wrong with my computer? I'm out of warranty so it'll cost me to call hp.
