Is it customary for prisoners of the US military to be tortured?

It's a terrible thing. I would like to think that we in the west would not do such things. I thought we had very high human rights values, that made us different from the "enemy". This type of behavior when it comes to light is dealt with and those responsible punished, I'm sure, if that is any consolation.
